📰 ‘Backrooms’ is officially A24’s highest grossing film EVER after only 5 days. Noah Kahan helped pass an ‘Anti-Ticket Scalping’ law in Vermont. TikTok teamed up with Sundance for a microseries workshop, and more.

⭐ ‘Backrooms’ crossed $100M and is already A24’s highest grossing movie EVER passing ‘Marty Supreme’

Chalamet’s film also had A24’s most expensive budget ever too with ~$65 million, whereas Kane Parsons bested them all with ~$10 million.

⭐ The British Government received one of their ‘largest donations ever in the UK tourism sector’

$8 billion from Comcast for their first Universal Studios theme park. IRL baby.

Noah Kahan helped the state of Vermont formally pass their ‘Anti-Ticket Scalping Bill’ into law after testifying in Senate earlier this year

Vermont’s new ticket resale cap is 100% of the original value. Let’s get every other state to follow next please.

“As an artist that cares deeply about the fan experience and accessibility of concert tickets, this bill is a critical step in eliminating predatory resale behaviors and offer Vermonters a great solution for exchanging and reselling tickets on a safe marketplace.”

⭐ Hasbro launched an AI studio that will enable IP licensing of their most iconic characters like Mr. Potato Head, Optimus Prime, and more to combat unauthorized use.

⭐ TikTok is teaming up with Sundance Institute for a 4-week microseries writing workshop (extremely 2026 coded sentence)

Bill Ackman’s $64 billion bid to buy Universal Music Group was denied, so what did he do next? Sell all of his remaining stock in the company.

⭐ Prime Video unveiled a ‘new’ feature that showcases top 10 rankings across all of their weekly content.

⭐ Paramount Skydance is folding Skydance Interactive, Skydance New Media and Paramount IP into a new Paramount Games Studio.

A Marvel and a Lucasfilm-backed Star Wars game are both staying in development.

Just like Paramount's pivot to publishing they are on the hunt to incubate IP that they can then release across formats (cough cough) movies

A Funny Final Farewell!

Is your Boomer boss asking you to print out their emails again? Is your Older-Millennial sister yelling at Siri “How to STOP AI from taking my job AND where should I eat dinner with friends on Saturday, nothing outside!”?

Are you just watching and laughing? We’d love to introduce you to Deborah and Ava!

Watch the final season of Hacks, and catch up on the full series, on HBO Max!

5 pieces of advice from our guests this week:

Kyle Bulia (PR Exec): The way you interact with people now will follow you for the rest of your career. A lot of your peers will one day be your boss, an investor, a stakeholder. People may remember you for doing a good job, but what they'll really remember most is how you made them feel.

Ashley Hansen (PR Exec): Ten or fifteen years ago the standard was maintaining perfection; now people want who they follow to be authentic

Syd Cohen (Writer for Press Publish): If you have an idea for something you want to make, do it. If you want to make a video, make it. If you want to make a short film, make it and package it as a YouTube video. Do not package it as a short film, because you need to get good at optimizing for the algorithm. I know that's not what every creative wants to hear, but that's how you get your stuff seen. Do what's going to make you happy.

Jbeau Lewis (Partner & Music Agent @ UTA): You've got to be open-minded, always ready to pivot, always ready to think about things differently. I've been in this business 22, 23 years.. it's vastly different than when I got in… The openness to stay personal, stay dynamic, stay ready to pivot to the next thing is really critical. And you've got to find the right marriage of interpersonal skills and business skills.

Dan Porter (Founder of Overtime): It's hard to have a job and do something else. But if you can't move it across the line while you have a full-time job, and your main excuse is "I don't have enough time because of my job," that doesn't mean you'll magically figure out how to move the line after you quit. The reality is, when somebody gives you the first dollar that's the signal. Having the job is actually a constraint to pressure-test how realistic it is. I think the time is always now, and probably was yesterday.
