& one surprise to be announced

There are enough polished podcasts from experts who have a pessimistic view on the future of our industry. The world needs more authentic, human-to-human convos and that is why I’m launching this weekly show.

Subscribe below and see you Wednesday.

⭐ The Writers Guild of America reaches a deal with major studios a month before their contract expires

The new deal will run for 4 years ( notably 1 more year than the usual 3) & it’s expected to include a large amount of cash injected into the Guild’s health fund.

“[The new deal] protects our health plan and puts it on a sustainable path, with increased company contributions across many areas and long-needed increases to health contribution caps.”

– The WGA Committee

⭐ Universal Music Group and Believe have ‘amicably’ settled their 2024 copyright lawsuit that UMG initially slapped a $500 million price tag on

Wtf was this about? UMG accused Believe and TuneCore of uploading and making money off fake or altered versions of big artists’ songs without permission, like sped-up tracks or misspelled knockoffs.

⭐ Have movie times increased? One researcher studied 36,000 films that points to “yes”

Stephen Follows analyzed thousands of films that were released in theaters from the 1980’s to 2025, and found that the average runtime has grown from 106 minutes to 114. Additionally, commercials have increased from 20 to 30 minutes.

Stephen Follows

What does this mean for the movie industry? More time in theater seats despite our collective pea brains shrinking by the minute. Seems completely counterintuitive.

Fun fact: Humans now have a shorter attention span than goldfish. So when someone says you have the attention span of a goldfish, take it as a compliment.

⭐ Guess we need to authenticate celeb brands now

It’s time we talk about celeb brands. There seems to be a cycle to the hype:

There were none, then there were too many where celebs were just slapping their names on literally everything, and now we enter a new era: celebs need to prove they are actually involved in the brand so their fame “transfers” to the product.

So it’s no surprise Alix Earle released this 1 hour long hype reel about her involvement in her new brand..

Pepsi pulled out as Wireless Festival’s main sponsor after Kanye West was announced as the headliner

⭐ Jack Black becomes the latest person to host SNL 5 times – marking him as the 29th entrant

  1. CAA swipes Courtney McHugh from UTA as an executive in their talent business ventures group. Her background includes helping to form UTA’s venture group.

  2. Paramount promotes Allie McLarty as their new SVP of Global Communications

  3. National Women’s Soccer League enlists new Heads of Business & Marketing. Brian Kelly enters the fold as the Chief Commercial Officer, and Rachel Epstein becomes their new Chief Marketing Officer.

  4. Brad Pitt’s Plan B Europe added Maria Fleischer as executive producer and Charlie Silver as development producer, expanding its London team launched in 2025.
