Last week a California jury ordered Meta and Google to pay $6 million after finding their platforms fueled addiction.
💡Why this matters: if the algos design is considered harmful the distribution engine of the modern content landscape may change?

⭐ Spotify & the major labels are now seeking $322 million in damages from the free online library Anna’s Archive
In case you missed it, at the end of 2025 Anna’s Archive downloaded 300 terabytes (2,340 iPhones worth, I had no idea also) of audio and just shared it for free.
Spotify teamed up with all major labels and sued them for theft and DMCA violations, but it does not seem like AA is backing down anytime soon.
WTF is DMCA? A 1998 law that lets copyright owners demand takedowns of their content online, and shields platforms if they pull it fast.

Sony Music has promoted Ezekiel “Zeke” Lewis to chairman and CEO of Epic Records, elevating the former president after Sylvia Rhone’s exit last year. He has worked with artists like Travis Scott, SZA, and Future while leading A&R since 2023.
UTA promoted 35 employees to Partner across 23 departments. Huge congratulations to everyone on the very long list that will not fit in this section lol.
Peter Alexander is leaving NBC News after 20 years to anchor MS NOW’s 11 a.m. hour and serve as chief national reporter. He joins a growing list of NBC veterans jumping to Versant.
Ray Nutt will step down as CEO of Fathom Entertainment later this year. He joined in 2017 and will help find his successor as the company, owned by AMC, Cinemark, and Regal, looks to its next phase.
