AvA LIVE Lineup Booked In Partnership With:

In June, CAA launched a $250M fund with private-equity giant TPG to buy creator-led companies. I wasn't sold on how it would be received by the creator economy. Then I read more about 15-year CAA veteran Tucker Brown. He joins AvA LIVE this week along with:

⭐ The CEO of The Atlantic (that was founded in 1857 so some history there)

⭐ The Co-Founder & CEO of Breakaway Music Festival

⭐ Former editors-in-chief of InStyle and WSJ Magazine and co-authors of the bestselling career guide All the Cool Girls Get Fired

⭐ Global director at Ogilvy with a heavy focus on brand’s relationships with Gen Z

⭐ Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim spent 34 days filming Elizabeth Holmes before her 2023 prison sentence, turning the access into a 174-minute A24 documentary “You Can See Everything.”

There was a surprise premiere at the Telluride Film Festival, with the theater taking away all phones from attendees. Takeaways:

  • These days it’s pretty rare that anything is a true surprise, but this now-potential-Oscar-fave was as close to one as you can get.

  • It was a masterclass in how you roll out a project.

  • It made me as uncomfortable as anything I’ve ever seen in recent memory

  • Nathan Fielder is a genius & this doc is already a massive gift from the meme gods:

⭐ Did you know the Emmys are actually spread across three nights?

The two-night Creative Arts Emmys handed out more than 100 awards this weekend, honoring everything from production and technical work to guest acting, reality and variety. The main ceremony takes place September 14, when Hollywood finally gets to the categories people actually place bets on.

The Lumiere Summit adopted 5 declarations around AI, piracy, gender, education, and the environment:

  • AI: Creators should know when their work trains AI and get paid for it.

    • Plus AI-generated content should also be clearly labeled.

  • Piracy: Countries should work together to shut down illegal streaming and piracy sites.

  • Workplace equality: Productions should improve equal pay, representation and protections against harassment.

  • Media literacy: Schools should teach people how to understand and evaluate the images and videos they consume.

  • Sustainability: Film and TV industries should follow shared environmental standards.

⭐ Stephen Colbert raised $5 million in seed funding to expand Scripto, the collaborative scriptwriting software he co-founded.

Users already range from Saturday Night Live and The Daily Show to awards shows and AAA video games.

It’s officially Venice Film Festival season, and you know what that means… standing ovations long enough to make your legs and hands hurt

This year included projects from Oasis, Robert Pattinson, and more, with reports of the longest ovations posted being between 7-9 minutes so far. And here I am looking for a simple “thanks no notes from me".”

⭐ Cat Goetze, better known as CatGPT is taking a stake in her own management company, Smooth Media, becoming its first outside shareholder.

She’ll advise the firm, which represents more than 70 creators and takes a cut of the deals it brings her. Love this deal, and one that will become the new norm.

⭐ The Summer box office broke the all-time record with $4.76 billion

The record was set in 2013 at $4.755 when projects like ‘Iron Man 3,’ ‘Despicable Me 2,’ and ‘Man of Steel’ were all in theaters. We are SO SO back.
