Netflix, Disney, and YouTube are all reportedly preparing to challenge Fox for the U.S. rights to the 2030 and 2034 World Cups, with each tournament expected to fetch between $1.5 billion and $2 billion.

And the bidding war makes sense: Team USA’s win over Bosnia drew more than 35 million viewers across English and Spanish broadcasts, while early estimates put its embarrassing loss to Belgium near 48 million.

Just imagine the ratings next round if we had actually won..

⭐ Olivia Benson is taking over the Emmys

NBC tapped “Law & Order: SVU” star Mariska Hargitay to host the 78th Emmy Awards, making her the first woman to lead the show in 15 years.

After 27 seasons, eight acting nominations, one Emmy win, and nearly 600 episodes, she’s basically been preparing to run television’s biggest night since 1999.

⭐ Netflix penned deals with major publishers to bring content to the platform’s home page starting in August

The major player? Penske, who owns practically all of Hollywood besides me/AvA: The Hollywood Reporter, Deadline, Billboard, Eater, IndieWire, Rolling Stone and Variety. Also included in the deal are BuzzFeed, Condé Nast, Hearst Magazines, People Inc. and Tastemade.

Ok but what’s the deal? They’ll showcase 3 to 20 minute long episodes ‘ranging from travel inspiration, cooking ideas, fashion trends, celebrity profiles, home and gardening tips and viral conversations.’

Why does this matter? It keeps viewers inside the platform after they finish a show or movie. Instead of sending fans to YouTube, Instagram or TikTok for bonus content, Netflix is trying to own that next (one million) clicks too.

⭐ ‘Obsession’ is officially the 2nd highest grossing original film of the entire decade

⭐ Versant Media announced major plans to bolster their golf and sports sector by purchasing golf simulator company Full Swing for $530 million

They are doubling down on their plan to build revenue beyond traditional TV through Golf Channel, GolfNow and GolfPass. AKA owning the entire hobby.

⭐ Harry Styles set a Guinness World Record for the most sold out performances (12) at the 80,000 capacity Wembley Stadium

The previous record (10) was set by Coldplay last year, and if you’re counting, that means Harry brought just under 1,000,000 fans together to His House in less than two weeks… crazy.
