The King of Sitcoms Chuck Lorre’s big break in television actually started with a door-to-door radio sales job.
Before The Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men, Lorre spent more than a decade trying to make it as a musician and songwriter. When music wasn’t paying the bills, he started selling radios to businesses along Ventura Boulevard.
One of those doors led to an animation company, and his first shot at writing for TV.
Hollywood career advice I tell you every week: get your foot in the door, and apparently bring a radio.
Niche fact: Chuck Lorre co-wrote the theme song for the 1987 animated series Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles under a flat-fee work-for-hire arrangement ($2,000 budget completed in 48 hours) rather than a back-end royalty contract.
As a result, he received no ongoing royalties or residuals from massive subsequent revenue streams like VHS tape sales, video games, or merchandise.
I think he ended up prettttttty OK though:

TBBT is obviously Lorre's biggest success. After negotiating an "unprecedented 20% equity stake," he's made $200 million from its first syndication sale. He made another $200 million when HBOMax paid $1 billion to be the series' exclusive streaming platform… and now has a net worth of $600 million.

Chuck joins Doja Cat’s manager, my old Boss & Global Head of Music @ WME & TikTok 2nd bet after Issa Rae.

🍗 Amelia Dimoldenberg’s Chicken Shop Date series is coming to an end, and the last episode will be airing for one night only in select movie theaters.
She isn’t the only one crossing platforms to grace the big screen, as Heated Rivalry announced they will be hosting marathon screenings of the show too. I know we say it a lot, but movie theaters are truly evolving into their next form and we are so back??!
📷 Instagram announced they were adding long-form video to the platform, which left us all thinking: is every social media platform slowly becoming the same?

🎵 Macklemore is setting out on his sold out ‘Free Palestine’ tour… and he is iconically bringing Ed Sheeran’s backing band, Hozier as well as one of the tour’s openers. Pure cinema.
💻 Netflix has hired former Apple Podcasts executive Steve Wilson to lead its podcast acquisitions
Wilson spent 15 years at Apple before becoming chief strategy officer at QCode. Netflix has already added shows from Spotify’s The Ringer and expanded its iHeartMedia partnership with podcasts featuring Martha Stewart, Kate Hudson and Lele Pons.
Even with the top content ranks changing, it seems the podcast shift is bigger than just one or two executives, I think we will be seeing a lot of highly produced but still YouTube-style content. Time will tell if it works.
🏆 The Academy CEO is exploring the idea of making the Oscars a more global event now that the show has moved to YouTube.
Accessibility and global eyeballs was the entire point of this deal

In two years, the Oscars will be available on YouTube for free to 2.5 billion people around the world in over 30 languages. So for the first time everyone around the world will have access to the show at the same time and in the same format — and that is a huge, intentional move by the Academy to reach a bigger global audience.
— CEO of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, Bill Kramer
