👋 Welcome to The Mail Cart.
🌊 Holy Blue Tsunami. Xavier Becerra was elected to replace Gov. Gavin Newsom and will become California’s first Latino governor since 1875. He now inherits Newsom’s proposal to raise the annual film and TV tax credit cap from $750M to at least $1B. The catch? There’s no bill yet, and Becerra says he’ll only raise the cap if every dollar out brings a dollar back. Hollywood’s $1B offer is still subject to approval.
LA Mayor race is still too close to call, with Nithya Raman holding a slight lead over Karen Bass at the time of writing.
My real winner though (besides the dems) last night? Steve Kornacki. I love that man more and more every election night, and Also after hosting AvA LIVE for 30 weeks, boy do I have more respect for him too..
The other big winner? Us not having to see election ad after election ad. May our YouTube ads return to normal things like (checks notes) GLP-1…
Netflix is debuting a new AI Discovery feature, Universal Music leads all record labels in market share for 2026 so far, FilmLA extended their Low Impact Permit Program, ‘Sweater Weather’ is Spotify’s most playlisted song of all time and only the 3rd to reach 5 billion streams, Disney is readying their largest round of layoffs this year, Apple Music crowns Drake as their Best Rapper of 2026, and Druski signs a multi-year deal with Netflix to create original content.
We hosted a screening in NYC (More events coming soon we promise) for Victorian Phsycho with Jason Isaacs, Maika Monroe & Thomasin Mackenzie and more…Thanks to eveyone who came out

USC rejected him from its film production program. He went on to win two Oscars and just released a documentary produced by the Obamas & IShowSpeed.
Ben Proudfoot’s career started with a nine-minute class assignment that he uploaded to Vimeo (which was against the rules). Incredibly inspiring story. He joins us on AvA LIVE today. Full schedule below:

🎬 Netflix is using AI to solve the nightly “what should we watch?” spiral. Its new AI Discover tab is rolling out in the U.S., letting subscribers browse by mood and fine-tune recommendations with feedback. The goal: get you watching something before you spend an entire episode’s worth of time looking for it.
My outlook: The next phase for streamers will be completely curated feeds, then AI generated content based on what you like. Every day we get closer and closer to living in a Black Mirror episode.

💿 What record labels have the most market share?
From January to September of this year Universal Music has held 39.22% of the entire industry, with Interscope/Capitol leading the way for a specific label at 15.41%.
Additionally, independent labels have grown to hold 22.4% of the market share as a collective.
🎞️ FilmLA extended their Low Impact Permit Pilot Program until April 30th of next year, which enables small independent projects around $1,000 off per permit.
Since the project’s debut they have given out 400 permits and counting.
🏰 Disney is expected to cut thousands of jobs in its fourth round of layoffs this year. Some managers have reportedly been asked to cut annual expenses by 20%, with a portion of the savings going back into content, technology, parks and cruises. More investment in entertainment doesn’t necessarily mean more jobs in entertainment.
📼 Druski turned a megachurch sketch into a Netflix deal. His new comedy series Collect & Praise, co-starring Mike Epps, premieres Dec. 1 as part of a multi-year agreement that also brings his existing YouTube shows to the streamer. He self-financed the content, built the audience, and now Netflix is buying both the next idea and the back catalog.
