The line between Hollywood jobs and creator economy jobs is no longer a thing, and being chronically online is essentially a job qualification for anyone hoping to break into entertainment in 2026.

⭐ Fox Entertainment just bought Roku for $22 billion
This means that Fox’s already widespread (with Tubi’s acquisition in 2020) reach just got even more direct access to over 100 million households, with their CEO calling this the company’s ‘defining moment.’ Roku is essentially the front door to many households viewing experience
It also catapults Fox up to 3rd place in TV viewing…

⭐ The Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery deal has been approved by the US Justice Department
“The Division has completed its analysis of the proposed merger of Paramount and Warner Bros. and determined based on the evidence received in its investigation that the transaction is not likely to result in harm to competition or American consumers.”
⭐ USA’s World Cup win scored the most watched US Men’s National Team game in the tournament’s history with nearly 16 million viewers
Not that we are counting, but 125 Million people watched the Super Bowl compared to 1.2 Billion tuning into the World Cup opener.
⭐ Voting for the Emmys formally began this week
TV series in contention for the 14 main awards dropped by 7.5% to 555
⭐ Peacock is rolling out vertical microdramas in their app this month
🎙️ Connor Hayes, Head of Threads: “One of the big forks in the road young people face is: do I go try something on my own, or go to a bigger company where I can learn from a lot? My sense is the best careers flip-flop between those paths, start a company, quit, try your own thing, go back to a big company…”
🎙️ Gordon Smith, Pluribus, Breaking Bad, etc.: “I have a lot of friends who are directors who started as DPs, camera operators they worked their way up because they knew what they were trying to get to. There's something about allowing yourself to be humbled so that you can learn.”
🎙️ Jenn Carroll, Pluribus, Breaking Bad, etc.: “We looked around the writers' room the other day, and almost every writer in the room had been an assistant on the show before able to learn by osmosis, be shown a healthy environment, and then flourish and grow.”
The last two quotes are from people who went from Assistants on ‘Breaking Bad’ to Writers and Directors of one of the biggest shows of recent times, ‘Pluribus.’
